"Understanding climate changes: the first step"

From today it is available to the community of readers the English version of my essay "Understanding climate changes: the first step" kindly translated from the original Italian version by Patrizia Angelico. 

With a deliberately informative language, the properties of solar irradiation, the consequent heating and the distribution of temperature on the Earth's surface are presented, deduced from the analysis of satellite data. 

Furthermore the characteristics of the daily, inter-daily and seasonal variability of the temperature are discussed, and how they change with the geographical coordinates.

Il solstizio d'estate...una o due volte l'anno?

Solstizi ed equinozi sono due tra gli eventi astronomici più noti. Segnando il passaggio da una stagione alla successiva, di questi eventi se ne sente parlare spesso, almeno quattro volte l’anno: il 21 Marzo e il 23 Settembre per gli equinozi primaverile e autunnale, rispettivamente, e il 21 Giugno e il 21 Dicembre per i solstizi estivo ed invernale, rispettivamente (nel nostro emisfero boreale).

Fin qui tutto bene; quanto appena detto sembrerebbe proprio non fare una grinza.

E se vi dicessi che questo è vero….ma non del tutto?

Ebbene sì! Infatti, vi sono regioni del nostro pianeta in cui ogni anno ci sono non uno ma bensì due solstizi estivi!!
